Cement exports up 160 per cent on Afghan demand

Cement exports have jumped to 1.1Mt in 2004 mainly to Afghanistan with some cement exports to the UAE as well, reflecting a growth of 160 per cent over 2003. The total cement exports in 2003 had been at 430,000t, this year up to 1.1Mt with short-term outlook still strong. Indonesian cement consumption up

Indonesia’s domestic consumption of cement reached 11.244Mt during the first five months of 2004, an increase of 8.7 per cent from 10.321Mt for the same period last year, according to data released by the Indonesian Cement Producers Associations.  The data showed that domestic cement consumption amounted to 2.373Mt in May, up 6.3 per cent year-on-year.  Cement exports rose sharply from 662,600t in May 2003 to 825,787t in May this year, it added.

Cement prices in UAE fixed

The price of bulk cement in the UAE was fixed at a maximum of 280 UAE dirhams (US$76.2) a tonne and the price of a bag at 15 dirhams (US$4.08), following an agreement reached by the panel created to supervise the cement prices in the country on June 30, 2004.  The panel, comprising representatives of the UAE Ministry of Economy and Commerce, the Contractors’ Association and cement manufacturers, will implement the new prices on July 1, 2004. Bangladesh: District detective branch of police seized a cargo vessel MV Shamin with large quantity of cement of Indian origin near Tarabo Ghat under Rupganj police station yesterday morning. In May, cement production rose by 14.2% or 139,000 tons compared with April.  In January-May, cement production rose by 34% or 933,000 tons compared with January-May 2003, to give a total output of 3,673,000 tons.  More than 15 enterprises produce cement in Ukraine, and their total annual capacity is more than 20Mt.
