Chinese cement producer Jidong Cement has awarded a 3Mt coal supply contract to Russian mining company Mechel. "Over the year Mechel will supply up to 3Mt of steam coal mined at LLC Elgaugol's Elga Open Pit Mine and JSC Yakutugol's Neryungrinsky Open Pit Mine,” said the Russian mining company in a statement. Rising coal prices are presenting a risk to profit margins of cement manufactures in Pakistan. Eagle Cement orders Loesche coal mill

Eagle Cement Corp of the Philippines has ordered a Loesche vertical roller mill for its plant in Barangay in San Ildefonso, 50km north of the capital city of Manila. The coal mill for line 3 is designed for grinding 54tph of mixed coal or 34tph of petcoke. The scope of supply also includes an LSKS classifier and corresponding filters, blowers, an inertisation unit, the gas analysis and the main drives. All components are to be delivered before the end of the 2017.

Indian cement producers prefer imported petcoke

Cement producers in India continue to prefer better-quality imported petcoke at US$92/t, despite its price being double that of Indian coal, according to the Business Standard. BlackGold Natural Resources Ltd announced that its subsidiary, PT Samantaka Batubara has successfully completed its first coal delivery to Indonesian producer Semen Padang. Prism Cement Ltd has successfully bid for 18,300tpa of coal from South Eastern Coalfields Ltd, a subsidiary of Coal India Ltd, in a recently-held auction of coal linkages for the cement industry, according to a filing to the Bombay Stock Exchange. With the bid, the cement producer has secured part of its fuel requirement for the next five years. The allocation was made at a nominal premium over the floor price.
