SCG expects slower 2014 growth on impact of political instability

The Spanish cement market contracted by a further 19.2 per cent in 2013, bringing national cement consumption to 10.981Mt from 13.597Mt the previous year, according to Oficemen, the cement association of Spain. Indonesian cement consumption is expected to grow at a similar rate to 2013 despite cement price increases, as producers look to compensate for higher electricity costs and lower growth forecasts. Pakistan’s central bank reported growth in the domestic cement sector in FY13 of 5.2 per cent compared to 2.9 per cent the year before. The annual report released last week by the State Bank of Pakistan shows that total growth in large-scale manufacturing recovered from just 1.1 per cent in FY12 to 4.4 per cent in FY13 – the highest rate in the past five years. Kazakhstan producer Steppe Cement said its 2013 revenue was 8.7 per cent higher YoY, as demand in the central Asian country increased by an estimated 13 per cent to 8.1Mt during 2013. The company generated revenues of KZT19.47bn during the year, up from KTZ17.91bn in 2012. Cement sales reached 1.37Mt, up from 1.35Mt in 2012m an increase of 1.3 per cent. Conch expects strong rise in 2013 profit

Anhui Conch, the leading cement producer in China by market value, said it expects a 50 per cent rise in net profit attributable to shareholders for 2013. Argentina reports annual consumption gains

Cement consumption in Argentina increased by 16.1 per cent YoY in December to reach 914,964t, latest data from industry association AFCP shows. However, despite the annual increase, the December 2013 figure was 12.6 per cent lower compared to demand in November 2013. Portland cement shipments by the domestic industry (including exports) were 927,964t in December 2013, also down 12.6 per cent from November's figures, but 14.7 per cent higher YoY.
