Domestic cement sales in Brazil saw a 6.3 per cent decline to 4.467Mt in December 2022 when compared with December 2021 when sales reached 4.766Mt, according to the country’s cement association, SNIC. Shipments of Portland and blended cement, including imports, in the USA and Puerto Rico increased by 8.8 per cent YoY to 10.7Mt in October 2022, according to the US Geological Survey (USGS). The top five cement-consuming states were Texas, California, Florida, Illinois and Ohio. Cement deliveries in Switzerland, including Liechtenstein, were down 6.3 per cent YoY to 971,994t in the fourth quarter of 2022 from 1,037,394t in the 4Q21, according to cemsuisse, the Swiss cement association. Cement demand in Argentina fell by nine per cent to 932,661t in December 2022 from 1,144,123t in December 2021, reports the country’s cement association, AFCP. When compared with the previous month, the December volume sold dropped 18.5 per cent. All cement was supplied by domestic producers and there were no imports. Cement sales in Puerto Rico declined 3.6 per cent YoY in October 2022 to 1.17m bags of 42.6kg, or 49,842t, according to the country’s Statistics Institute. Cement deliveries in Morocco decreased by 25 per cent in December 2022 to 942,317t from 1,255,552t in December 2021, according to the country’s cement association, APC. The monthly total includes sales by APC members Asment Temara , Ciments de l’Atlas , Ciments du Maroc and LafargeHolcim Maroc . In the full-year 2022 total deliveries fell by 10.7 per cent to 12.487Mt from 13.975Mt in 2021.

Cement consumption in Kenya declined from 2.596Mt in the third quarter of 2021 to 2.217Mt in the same period this year, marking a contraction of 14.6 per cent YoY. Cement consumption in Vietnam in November 2022 totalled 5,275,474t, down by three per cent YoY, according to the Vietnam National Cement Association (VNCA). Of this total 1,800,848t was supplied by VICEM, representing a YoY decline of two per cent, while other VNCA members supplied 1,174,626t, down four per cent YoY.
