Sales of cement in the Brazilian market increased by 6.8 per cent to 4.829Mt in January 2023 from 4.52Mt in January 2022 and by 8.1 per cent MoM from 4.467Mt, according to the country’s cement association, SNIC. US production and consumption increased in 2022

The US produced an estimated 95Mt of Portland and masonry cement in 2022, according to the US Geological Survey (USGS), up from 93Mt in the previous year.  Cement was produced at 96 plants in 34 states, along with two plants in Puerto Rico. Chilean cement dispatches fell 16.9 per cent YoY to 310,073t in December 2022, reported the Chilean construction chamber, CChC. For the full year, deliveries were down 13.4 per cent from 4,388,207t in 2021 to 3,802,114t in 2022.

Argentina’s cement market expands 9% in January

Argentine cement demand increased by 9.2 per cent YoY and 2.7 per cent MoM to 957,958t in January 2023, according to the country’s cement association, AFCP. The market was entirely supplied by domestic producers, whose output, including export supply, expanded 8.9 per cent YoY and three per cent MoM to 965,361t. However, exports fell 15.8 per cent from 8793t in January 2022 to 7403t in January 2022.

Moroccan cement deliveries fall 6% in January

Cement deliveries by members of Morocco’s cement association, APC, declined by six per cent YoY in January 2023 to 1,060,585t from 1,128,552t in January 2022, reported the cement association. The data reflects the sales by Asment Temara, Ciments de l’Atlas, Ciments du Maroc and LafargeHolcim Maroc. In 2022 cement deliveries by APC members saw a 10.7 per cent fall YoY to 12.487Mt from 13.975Mt in 2021, according to APC.

Colombian cement market expands 4% in 2022

Grey cement dispatches in Colombia slipped 1.1 per cent YoY to 1.122Mt in December 2022 from 1.135Mt in December 2021, according to the country’s statistics agency, DANE. Total shipments of Portland and blended cement, including imports, in the USA and Puerto Rico slipped to 9.3Mt in November 2022 when compared with November 2021, according to the US Geological Survey (USGS). Cement sales in Puerto Rico fell by 6.8 per cent YoY in 2022 to 14.5m bags of 42.6kg, or 618,247t, according to the Puerto Rican Statistics Institute. It is the first decline since 2019. Cement dispatches in Chile saw a 22.9 per cent YoY drop to 300,800t in November 2022, according to the country’s construction chamber, CChC. In the January-November 2022 period total dispatches reached 3.492Mt, down 13 per cent YoY from 4.015Mt in the year-ago equivalent period.
