Spain: eight month consumption down 34.3% YoY

Spanish cement consumption for the first eight months of 2012 has declined by 34.3 per cent YoY to 9.56Mt, according to the latest data from Spanish cement association Oficemen. In August alone, demand was down 33.6 per cent YoY to 1.13Mt. Exports, on the other hand, increased by 48.9 per cent compared to the same month of 2011. Peru dispatches rise 16.8%

Shipments of cement in the Peruvian market totaled 6,098,738t from January to August 2012, 16.84 per cent more than the same period of 2011 (5,219,828t), the Association of Cement Producers (Asocem) has reported. Siam Cement sees 10% rise in domestic demand, Thailand

Siam Cement Group (SCG) expects domestic cement consumption to be double than its earlier forecasts for 2012 as demand is on the path of recovery. Kan Trakulhoon, the president and chief executive, said capacity utilisation at SCG, the country's largest cement maker, this year will be on a par with last year at 18Mt or 78 per cent of its overall production level. Iranian output rises three per cent in first five months

Total Iranian cement production reached 30.5Mt in the first five months of the Iranian year (beginning 21 March 2012), a rise of three per cent compared compared to 29.6Mt produced in the same period of last year. Clinker production totalled 29.9Mt in the period  against 27.79Mt in Iranian year 2011. Cement and clinker exports for the first five months of this year was 5.6Mt, of which cement accounts for 4.87Mt.

Cement Hranice 2012 outlook, Czech Republic

Despite reporting an increase in 2011 cement sales, Czech cement producer Cement Hranice company expects a decline this year the Euro zone sovereign debt crisis and a continuing fall in construction output. Pakistan capacity utilisation drops to 10-year low

Capacity utilisation of the Pakistan cement industry declined to 68.29 per cent in the first two months of the current fiscal (FY12-13), the lowest level in a decade figures from the All Pakistan Cement Manufacturers Association (APCMA) show. Lafarge Pakistan Cement reported profit after tax of PKR498.916m (US$5.3m) in the first half of calandar year 2012 compared to losses of PKR17.539m in same period last year, boosted by a rise in domestic sales and cost optimisation. Tanzania-based Tanga Cement, part of the Holcim Group, has posted a  56 per cent YoY rise in net profit to TZS15bn (US$9.5m) due to increased exports and stable electricity supplies. Vietnam Jan-Aug production falls YoY

Vietnam is estimated to have produced 36.9Mt of cement in the first eight months of this year, a fall of 5.7 per cent from the same period of last year, according to the General Statistics Office (GSO).  Cement output in August is likely to have increased by 14.29 per cent from July to 5.5Mt, the government office said in a report released on Monday.
