Buzzi Unicem's first-quarter turnover declined by 8.4 per cent to EUR539.1m as a harsh winter took its toll in many countries. Net debt at the end of March was 3.9 per cent higher at EUR896.2m, while capital expenditure was increased by 6.3 per cent to EUR52.3m. Cementir's first-quarter turnover declined by 13.4 per cent to EUR242.3m, while adjusting for the Italian operations disposed of, the reduction was a more modest 1.6 per cent. EBITDA improved by 4.7 per cent to EUR24.1m, while at the trading level there was a swing from a EUR0.95m loss to a EUR6.31m profit. Ciment de Bizerte exports clinker to Italy

Ciment de Bizerte scheduled a ship to sail on 3 May from Tunisia to Italy, carrying around 8000t of clinker, as part of its export programme and continued performance tests of the company's new wharf facilities. The company has scheduled an additional 30,000t of clinker exports later in the month as well as the unloading of a petcoke vessel to ensure the smooth running of its facilities. Last month Ciment de Bizerte resumed exports to Cameroon .

In 2017 Buzzi Unicem group sold 26.8Mt of cement (+4.4 per cent compared to 2016) and 12.3Mm 3 of ready-mix concrete (+3 per cent YoY). Consolidated net sales increased by 5.1 per cent, from EUR2669.3m to EUR2806.2m. EBITDA decreased by 7.7 per cent from EUR550.6m to EUR508.2m. The foreign exchange effect was negative for EUR2m. Cementir announces 13% EBITDA rise in 2018

Cementir reported a 10.9 per cent increase in revenues to EUR1.14bn in 2017 from 1.028bn in 2016. EBITDA advanced by 12.6 per cent to EUR222.7m while net profit edged up 6.2 per cent to EUR71.5m from EUR67.3m. The figures do not include the Cementir Italia Group (discontinued operations), but do include Compagnie des Ciments Belges SA (CCB), which Cementir acquired on 25 October 2016. Cementir Holding's turnover in 2017 increased by 25.3 per cent to EUR1287.5m and EBITDA was ahead by 11.5 per cent to 220.5m. Buzzi Unicem's turnover in 2017 improved by 5.1 per cent in 2017 to EUR2806m, with a like-for-like improvement of 3.7 per cent after adjusting for the acquisition of Zillo and currency movements. The Italian Antitrust Authority (AGCM) has approved the sale of Cementir Italia and its subsidiaries Cementir Sacci SpA and Betontir SpA to Italcementi.
