Ukrcement carries out cement quality study

Ukraine’s cement association, Ukrcement, has carried out a new study into the quality of cement on the consumer market. The research found that over 80 per cent of cement with incorrect labelling was counterfeit. Ohorongo signs local packaging deal

Namibia’s Ohorongo Cement has awarded the contract for the supply of 1.2m bags by the end of August to Kaptau Packaging. Kaptau Packaging is reported to be the first Namibian company to produce cement bags. Previously, Ohorongo Cement imported its bags from neighbouring South Africa. The packaging company currently produces the bags in Oshakati, where it employs 25 permanent staff.

BillerudKorsnäs has launched its first climate-positive packaging, D-Sack, co-developed with Swiss manufacturer LafargeHolcim. Paraguay: cement price predicted to fall 15% in 2016

Following the fuel conversion at Industria Nacional de Cemento’s Villeta plant in Paraguay, its CEO, Jorge Méndez, said he expects up to a 15 per cent drop in the price of cement in 2016. The fuel project will enable the works to be fired with alternative fuels including vegetable oil and forest waste as well as oil and petcoke. This is expected to lower fuel costs by US$22m.
