Indonesian cement market contracts 38% in May

Demand for cement in Indonesia declined 38.3 per cent in May 2020 to 3,207,114t, according to the Indonesia Cement Association (ASI). In May 2019 domestic consumption reached 5,195,380t. The largest decrease was noted in the country’s largest market, Java, where demand fell 46.5 per cent from 3,025,312t in May 2019 to 1,619,822t in May 2020. Semen Indonesia Group sees 37% fall in May sales

Semen Indonesia Group (SIG) reported a 36.7 per cent drop in sales to 2,114,125t in May 2020 when compared with 3,338,768t in May 2019. Of this total Semen Indonesia, including SBI, saw sales decline by 38.5 per cent YoY to 1,936,752t (May 2019: 3,149,339t). BCMA calls for 60% cut in duties on clinker imports

The Bangladesh Cement Manufacturers' Association (BCMA) has issued a call for the government to cut import duties of clinker by 60 per cent. "We had zero sales during the countrywide closure in the last two and a half months," said Md Alamgir Kabir, president of BCMA. All Pakistan Cement Manufacturers Association (APCMA) released local/overseas dispatches data for May and the 11MFY19-20. Two men have been crushed by falling rocks after an explosion at the quarry of Thai Boon Roong Cement in Kampot province, Cambodia. The accident happened at La’ang commune’s La'ang village in Dang Tong district. District deputy police chief Men Ly said the victims, 29-year-old Kun Ral and 33-year-old Nheb Sarun, were cousins from Kandorl commune’s Damnak Trach village in Teuk Chhou district.
