Armenia extends import ban for six months

Armenia has extended a ban on cement imports from non-Eurasian Economic Union (EEU) countries for another six months, according to ArmenPress. The aim of the ban is to protect the domestic market and domestic production. The previous temporary ban had expired on 1 January 2021.

Georgia sees production fall 6% in 1H20

Georgia manufactured 1.06Mt of cement worth GEL152m (US$46.2m) in January-June 2020, down 6.2 per cent YoY from 1.13Mt in the year-ago period, according to GBC News. The country also imported 570,000t of cement in the first nine months of 2020.

Sri Lanka sees production up 9% in 9M20

Sri Lanka has seen domestic cement production rise 28.7 per cent YoY to 375,000t in September. In August production was up by 17.4 per cent YoY to 392,000t. Overall, cement production increased 8.5 per cent to 2.82Mt in the first nine months of 2020, compared to 2.6Mt in the same period of last year. Saudi Arabia saw cement sales rise 17% in November

Cement sales in Saudi Arabia increased 16.5 per cent YoY to 4.75Mt in November 2020, driven by the Ministry of Housing’s programmes, according to NCB Capital Co. On a monthly basis, local cement sales edged up by 0.7 per cent in November, reaching the second-highest monthly figure since January 2017. Iran's cement exports fall 24% YoY

The value of Iran’s cement exports in the first seven months of the current Iranian calendar year (20 March-21 October) reached more than US$163.4m, down 11 per cent compared to the same period last year. The quantity of cement exports also fell 24 per cent YoY to 7,630,428t.

Cement exports from Turkey to Turkmenistan increased by 79.1 per cent from January through September 2020, compared to the same period in 2019, amounting to US$14.8m, the Turkish Trade Ministry reported. The unloading of imported clinker and other commodities in Chittagong and Mongla ports in Bangladesh remains suspended due to an indefinite strike called by Water Transport Workers for the last two days.
