Cement prices up 8-10 per cent

The UAE Contractors Association has warned cement companies that it will take action if prices are raised beyond the recent 8-10 per cent rises. Officials told Gulf News that some cement companies were using fuel price increases as a pretext to increase cement prices.

Danish concrete company Unicon A/S and Danish transport and logistics company Frode Laursen A/S set up a joint company, Danish transport and logistics services provider Skancon A/S, it was reported on September 26, 2005.  The new company will begin operations as of October 1, 2005. Holcim Cement recently joined the long list of cement makers temporarily rationing shipments, citing heavy demand, plant manager Rob Davies said. Cement exports from India is set to register 20 per cent growth in the current financial year. The export growth is primarily driven by an increase in cement consumption in the Middle East, including the demand arising from reconstruction activities in war-torn Iraq.
