The Supreme Economic Court of Uzbekistan has received an appeal from Eurocement Group on the court's decision to annul the privatisation of Ahangarancement, in which the Russian producer holds a majority stake. Russian cement major Eurocement is facing the loss of its facility in Uzbekistan in a nationalisation drive by the central Asian country. Eurocement Group Holding of Russia is constructing a cement plant worth US$128m in Uzbekistan for its daughter enterprise Ahangarancement in the Tashkent region. Eurocement has signed a US$128m contract with China CAMC Engineering, a unit of Sinomach, for the supply of equipment, as well as design, installation, and training for a new cement plant in the Tashkent region of Uzbekistan, the group said in a statement Monday. Uzbekistan has seen the official launch of a US$116m cement plant in Jizzakh oblast, which will add to the country’s grey and white cement production capabilities. Ahangarancement, part of the Eurocement Group, produced over 1.116Mt of clinker and 1.62Mt of cement in 2013. The Uzbekistan-based producer said clinker volumes rose by 13 per cent YoY (or 137,600t) while cement output was up by six per cent (86,400t). Akhangaracement JSC, part of the Eurocement Group, produced 1.176Mt of cement and 853,503t of clinker in the first nine months of the year, up 1.61 per cent and 7.66 per cent YoY respectively.
