This Cemtech Live Webinar will explore clinker reduction opportunities in the cement manufacturing, one of the key levers in the cement industry’s sustainability pathway. Calcined clays, new binder concepts and production technologies will all be reviewed with one of the industry’s most eminent cementitious materials experts, Professor Karen Scrivener, EPFL (Switzerland). Further presentations will be delivered by suppliers of calcined clay production technologies, including FCT Combustion, who will describe the role of flash calciners in the production process.

In 1995, Prof Karen Scrivener joined the Central Research Laboratories of Lafarge, near Lyon in France, as Head of Research on calcium aluminate cements and expert of concrete durability in general. In March 2001, she was appointed as Professor and Head of the Laboratory of Building Materials, Department of Materials, at the Swiss Federal Institute of Technology at Lausanne (EPFL, Ecole Polytechnique Fédérale de Lausanne), Switzerland.  She created and is co-ordinating NANOCEM – the industrial-academic research network on cement and concrete, which brings together 15 industrial and 24 academic partners.

For last 19 years, Joel Maia has been working with combustion, especially in cement, lime and minerals industries, executing projects in more than 60 different countries. He is now the CEO of FCT Combustion at its European headquarters in Vienna, Austria.
