Golden Bay Cement Picks Pavilion

Golden Bay Cement Picks Pavilion
27 July 2004

Pavilion Technologies, a leader in advanced process control (APC) and environmental compliance solutions, will install its Process Perfecter(R) solution at Golden Bay Cement’s Northland, New Zealand site. Pavilion’s cement solution delivers demonstrable and superior results over traditional solutions, and the company’s customer engagement methodology, ValueFirst(TM), continues to define the industry standard for service and return on investment (ROI).

Pavilion’s Process Perfecter is a multivariable predictive control and optimization software that will enable Golden Bay Cement to reduce operating costs, increase production and improve product quality. By combining the Process Perfecter control solution with the process expertise of its engineering resources, Pavilion’s solution delivers a faster time to value and greater sustained value than other comparable technologies.

 The initial installation was conducted on Golden Bay’s cement mill six, targeting reduced residue variation and increased throughput. Based on the success of this project, Golden Bay has decided to extend the implementation to other mills at the site, awarding Pavilion a second project for implementation on mills four and five. This phase will be completed in August.

 "We are delighted that Pavilion’s APC solution is delivering to our expectations with an ROI of less than one year," said David Walker, operations manager for Golden Bay Cement. "Based on these results, we now intend to extend the implementation to other mills on the site. Working closely with Pavilion Technologies as a solution partner has been seamless, and their system development and support has been very responsive. We have complete confidence in Pavilion’s ability to deliver further performance gains across other areas of our operation."

 Expected results for Golden Bay with this implementation include:

 -- Increased throughput by 3%;

 -- Improved product quality and reduced residue variation by 50%; and

 -- Automatic control of the mills

 "It is a pleasure to be a strategic partner for New Zealand’s largest cement manufacturer and supplier," said Pavilion Technologies CEO Ralph Carter. "Golden Bay’s reputation for using leading technology to deliver exceptional product is aligned with Pavilion’s passion for serving the world’s leading companies. We leverage our people and technology around a common purpose -- to positively impact our customers’ bottom line. Our work with Golden Bay exemplifies this claim."

 "The excellent operational improvements flowing from this project reconfirms our position as the leader in Advanced Process Control solutions," said David Southall, managing director of Australia and New Zealand at Pavilion Technologies. "It strongly supports our APC initiatives and positions us to provide significant added value to continuous process industries across Australasia."

About Process Perfecter

Pavilion’s Process Perfecter(R) software was the first commercially available dynamic, non-linear, multi-variable Model Predictive Controller (MPC) and is widely applied in a number of multi-variable manufacturing environments. Process Perfecter combines steady-state optimization with model predictive control to deliver an advanced process control solution capable of managing process setpoints and transitions. Process Perfecter has been applied successfully to a variety of cement mill and kiln applications.
