The price of a 42.5kg bag of cement increased to HNL183 (US$8.09) in December 2015, up 5.2 per cent from HNL174 in December 2014, according to the Honduran Chamber of Construction (Chico). However, the price varies between HNL186-188 in the hardware stores of the capital and over HNL190 in other cities, mainly due to differences in transport costs.

The latest rise is part of a longer-term trend is advancing cement prices in the country. In December 2011 the price of a 42.5kg bag stood at HNL141, which subsequently increased to HNL153 and HNL159 in 2012 and 2013, respectively.
