CILAS Biskra, the cement joint venture between Lafarge (49 per cent stake) and Algerian businessman Souakri, is one step closer to the construction of its new plant. ThyssenKrupp Industrial Solutions has received an order to build a cement clinker production line in Algeria from Société des Ciments de Ain El Kebira (SCAEK), a subsidiary of Algerian cement manufacturer Groupe Industriel des Ciments d’Algérie (GICA). To alleviate the present cement shortage, Groupe Industriel des Ciments d’Algérie (GICA) has appointed Star Commercial Ltd of the British Virgin Islands to import 240,000t of cement. Algeria’s supply-demand gap currently runs over 5Mt as the country’s cement plants produce 18Mt. China Triumph International Engineering Group Co (CTIEC) has signed an EPC contract with STG Engineering and Real Estate Development Company for a 4200tpd line in Algeria. Algerian cement imports jumped by 65 per cent in terms of value and 70 per cent in volume during the first nine months of 2013, according to the country’s customs statistics office. Algeria’s Chlef cement works in Oued Sly intends to double its production capacity to 4Mta as the country’s Minister of Industry, Cherif Rahmani, launched the project for a new line during a visit to the area. Construction of Ain El Kebira second line begins, Algeria

Algeria’s Minister of Industry, SMEs and Investment Promotion, Cherif Rahmani, started off the construction of the second production line at the Ain El Kebira cement plant, north of Setif. The new line, which has a clinker capacity of 6000tpd, is part of GICA’s drive to up state-owned production capacity by 26Mt by the end of 2016. When completed, in 33 months’ time, the extension will take output capacity at the site from 1Mta to 3Mta.
