Argentina’s cement consumption fell 17.8 per cent to 970,248t in November 2018 when compared with 1.18Mt in November 2017. When compared with the previous month, the decline was 6.7 per cent, according to the country’s cement association, AFCP. Uruguayan 3Q domestic cement sales up 14%

Cement sales in Uruguay increased 14 per cent YoY to 181,000t in the July-September quarter, according to a report by the country’s Chamber of Industries. However, exports fell by 74 per cent to 12,000t during the same period. Around 60 per cent of exports are delivered to Paraguay, followed by Argentina (27 per cent) and Brazil (13 per cent). Imports were negligible in the third quarter of 2018 and in the year to date, accounted for around 8.9 per cent of apparent consumption.

Argentina's cement market contracted by 9.6 per cent YoY to 1,040,317t in October 2018, according to the latest data by the country’s cement association, AFCP. Deliveries by the country’s cement producers fell by 8.8 per cent to 1,040,197t while at 120t, imports were a shadow of those in October 2017 (9720t). Faced with a oversupply in its domestic market, Bolivia’s Itacamba, is focussing on export markets. Argentina-based Loma Negra has posted a net revenue of ARS6.131m (US$192m), up 47.2 per cent YoY in the third quarter of 2018. The company has attributed the increase to growth in its cement, masonry and lime business in Paraguay and its concrete operations in Argentina. The Argentine cement market contracted by 10.6 per cent YoY in September 2018 to 1.012Mt from 1.132Mt in September 2017, according to provisional data by AFCP, the country’s cement association. Argentine cement demand remained largely stable in August 2018 as it reached 1.115Mt when compared with 1.122Mt in August 2017, according to the latest data from AFCP, the country’s cement association. Loma Negra reports its 2Q18 net revenue increased 37.2 per cent to ARS4.757bn (US$169.4m) in 2Q18, from ARS3.467bn in the comparable quarter last year. Argentina’s cement market contracted by 6.3 per cent in July 2018 when compared with the previous year, according to the country cement association, AFCP.
