Peru cement prices among lowest in Latin America

Capeco, the Peruvian construction chamber, reported that the average retail price for grey cement in Peru is around US$6.22 per 42.5kg bag – one of the lowest in Latin America. The highest price is paid in Argentina, where a bag of cement costs on average US$12.34, followed by Nicaragua, Uruguay, Guatemala and Paraguay, where a bag of cement costs around US$10. Cement demand in Argentina surged 25.1 per cent YoY and edged up two per cent MoM to 1,091,549t in November 2020, according to the country’s cement association, AFCP.  The market was entirely supplied by domestic output. Argentina’s Loma Negra has seen its net revenue decrease 4.5 per cent YoY to ARS10.756bn (US$143m) in the third quarter of 2020, compared with ARS11.26bn in the year-ago period. Holcim contracts YPF as fuel supplier

YPF signed an agreement to supply natural gas and petcoke to Holcim’s plants in Malagueño (Córdoba), Campana (Buenos Aires province), Capdeville (Mendoza) and Puesto Viejo (Jujuy), Argentina. The duration of the agreement is two years and will supply all of Holcim Argentina’s natural gas and petcoke supplies, according to CE Noticias Financieras. Argentina’s cement consumption picked up by 12.7 per cent YoY in October 2020 as it increased to 1,070,118t (October 2019: 948,931t), according to the country’s cement association, AFCP.
