Argentina’s Loma Negra, part of InterCement, reported a 3.6 per cent YoY increase in net revenue to ARS7.428m (US$183m) in the first quarter of 2019 on the back of expanding concrete sales in Argentina and growth in cement revenues in Paraguay. Loma Negra to cut 265 jobs

Argentine cement producer Loma Negra, part of the InterCement Group, has announced that it plans to cut 265 jobs in its Barker cement plant Barker, Buenos Aires province. Currently the plant employs 330 staff. The company attributes the personnel reduction to the economic recession. The government is currently negotiating a solution, according to Esmerk Latin American News.

Loma Negra and Bridgestone enter water partnership

Argentina’s Loma Negra and Bridgestone have entered a partnership to re-use in Llavallol, Buenos Aires province. Bridgestone will supply 200,000lpd of filtered water. The step will enable the cement producer to reduce pressure on the aquifer it uses to feed its plant.

Cement demand in Argentina has fallen 13.8 per cent YoY to 940,112t in March 2019 when compared  with 1,091,122t in March 2018, according to the country’s cement association, AFCP. Cement demand in Argentina remained largely stable YoY at 921,112t in February 2019, but fell 5.4 per cent MoM, according to the country’s cement association, AFCP. Argentina’s Loma Negra has reported a 7.9 per cent YoY increase in net revenue to ARS26,807m (US$789m) in 2018, compared with ARS24,839m of the previous year. Argentine hyperinflation costs Cementos Molins EUR11m

Spain-based cement producer Cementos Molins saw a negative effect of EUR11m (US$12.5m) in its business results in 2018 due to the hyperinflation and the devaluation of Argentina, according to Spanish economic and business newspaper Expansión. Its profit fell by four per cent to EUR85m in 2018. The reduction of the Argentine’s subsidiary cash also affected the company’s debt levels, which increased by 22 per cent to EUR179m as a result of lower cash levels and investments made.

Cement demand in Argentina fell 16.3 per cent to 873,958t in January 2018, when compared with 1,043,732t in January 2017, according to the latest data from the Argentinian cement association, AFCP. Argentina’s cement market contracted 19.5 per cent YoY to 808,887t in December 2018, according to the country’s cement association, AFCP. In December 2017 domestic off-take was 1.004Mt.
