Argentine cement maker Loma Negra Corp has filed for an initial public offering, according to a SEC filing late Tuesday. "We believe that the economic recovery of Argentina represents one of the most attractive opportunities in global emerging markets today," the company said in the filing. Argentine cement consumption edged up one per cent MoM and 19.8 per cent YoY in July 2017. Demand reached 1,016,590t. Imports surged from 982t in July 2016 to 8692t one year later. When compared with June 2017, they advanced 6.2 per cent from 8188t. Argentina consumption up 17% YoY in June

Argentina’s cement market expanded 4.1 per cent MoM to 1,007,450t in June, according to the country’s cement association, AFCP. When compared with June 2016, the increase reached 17.2 per cent. Around 8972t of imports are included in this figure – more than quadrupling when compared with June 2016 although when compared with May 2017, the rise is more modest at 51 per cent. Argentine cement market expands 9% YoY in May

Argentina’s cement demand increased 9.8 per cent YoY to 967,695t, according to the country’s cement association, AFCP. The rise in consumption is mainly attributable to an increase in bulk cement, which was up 28 per cent YoY, offsetting a three per cent dip in bagged sales. Domestic demand includes 5932t of imports, a MoM rise of 86.7 per cent. In May 2016 there were no cement imports. Loma Negra board to consider equity offering

Cimpor announced that the board of directors of its subsidiary, Loma Negra (Argentina) has called for an Extraordinary General Meeting (EGM) to consider the necessary moves required for it to pursue an equity offering on the local and international capital markets. The move is among the initiatives undertaken by Cimpor “to reinforce its capital structure,” the parent company said in a statement. The EGM will be held on 3 July in Olavarría, Argentina.

Holcim Argentina appoints Carlos Espina as new CEO

Mr Espina has been the LafargeHolcim’s senior vice president of research and development since 2012 and based in the group’s Research Centre in Lyon, France. Holder of a degree in Mining Engineering, Metallurgy and Materials Sciences of the University of Oviedo, Spain and an MBA of the European School of Management Development (EUDEM), he was CEO of Arcelor Méditerranée before moving to LafargeHolcim.

Cementos Molins to raise capacity by 4.4Mta

In the next three years Cementos Molins plans to invest EUR350m to increase its capacity by 4.4Mta. The company currently has projects in Argentina, Colombia and Bangladesh. Argentina saw a 18.1 per cent MoM drop to 845,690t in dispatches (including exports) in April but noted a 10.7 per cent rise YoY, according to the country’s Portland Cement Manufacturers’ Association. Holcim (Argentina) approves clinker imports

Holcim (Argentina) has approved the import of up to six vessels of clinker for the period up to April 2018 via LH Trading, according to a company statement. The shipments represents some 250,800t of clinker with an approximate value of US$16.3m. The imports, which are expected to start in May, will help the company to meet growing demand as the country sees increased construction activity. LafargeHolcim’s Argentinian subsidiary has a production capacity of 4.8Mta.

Argentina's cement producers set new March dispatch record

Argentina’s cement companies dispatched 1,032,119t of cement in March 2017, surpassing the previous record of March shipments, set in 2015 when 979,452t were delivered to customers. The latest delivery volume is 15.5 per cent higher YoY and 28.7 per cent above the February 2017 level, according to AFCP, the country’s cement association.
