Argentina's cement deliveries fell 2.5 per cent MoM from 919,866t in May and 1.8 per cent YoY from 913,101t in June 2013 to 896,860t, according to the latest data from the country's cement association AFCP.  Exports reached 14,637t in June, up 57 per cent from 9336t the previous month, but down 19 per cent from 18,030t noted in June 2013. In May 2014, Argentina’s cement producers delivered 929,202t of cement (including exports), up 2.6 per cent when compared with April, but down 8.5 per cent YoY. Domestic demand, including imports, increased 2.7 per cent MoM to 920,093t. Compared with May 2013, however, it fell by 7.8 per cent.

Argentina: Cementos Avellaneda to double capacity

Cementos Avellaneda plans to invest US$100m at its La Calera works in San Luis to double its production, according to CEO Miguel De Anquin. The expansion is expected to supply the local market in San Luis, which due to public works and private projects has seen its cement consumption rise to nearly 400kg per capita, significantly above the national average of 260kg.

Cementos Molins posts 1Q14 net profit of EUR6.5m

Spain-based Cementos Molins released its first-quarter 2014 results, showing a net consolidated profit of EUR6.5m, up 37 per cent when compared to 1Q13. Argentina: cement demand falls 5% YoY

Argentina’s cement industry shipped 905,584t, including exports, in April 2014, reflecting a 0.6 per cent decrease from March and a 7.1 per cent fall YoY. Domestic demand, including imports, reached 895,697t, slipping 0.3 per cent MoM while compared to April 2013, the figure was 5.4 per cent lower. In the first four months of 2014, Argentina’s cement demand reached 3,557,983t, a two per cent decrease YoY. Exports fell by 42.4 per cent to 108,517t when compared to the previous year.

In March 2014, Argentina’s cement companies shipped 910,954t, including exports, reflecting a 13.5 per cent MoM rise, but a YoY drop of three per cent. The domestic market was entirely supplied by local cement and demand rose MoM by 14.7 per cent to 898,807t but was 1.8 per cent lower than in March 2013.

In February 2014, dispatches from Argentina’s cement plants fell 13.9 per cent MoM to 802,573t, including exports. However, YoY the drop was more modest at 4.4 per cent, data from domestic association AFCP reveals. Domestic cement consumption saw a similar MoM and a 3.1 per cent YoY decrease with cement producers delivering 783,917t. No imports were recorded.

Cimpor achieves record cement sales and profits

On a comparative basis, turnover at Cimpor increased by 25.5 per cent last year to EUR2624.5m and the EBITDA rose by 45.5 per cent to EUR691.8m. The market contraction in Mexico and a devaluation of the Argentine peso impacted the annual results of Cementos Molins. The Spanish company saw profit fall by 77 per cent to EUR10.1m although this is not comparable with the EUR20m of the previous year as the cement producer sold its stake in Cementos Artigas of Uruguay.
