Argentina: producers benefit from modest rise in demand

In January 2014, Argentina’s cement plants shipped 931,738t, including exports, reflecting a MoM increase of 0.4 per cent and a YoY rise of two per cent. The domestic marked demand, which includes imports, reached 910,379t, noting a 0.5 per cent fall from December 2013, but a 2.5 per cent advance on a year ago.

Argentina reports annual consumption gains

Cement consumption in Argentina increased by 16.1 per cent YoY in December to reach 914,964t, latest data from industry association AFCP shows. However, despite the annual increase, the December 2013 figure was 12.6 per cent lower compared to demand in November 2013. Portland cement shipments by the domestic industry (including exports) were 927,964t in December 2013, also down 12.6 per cent from November's figures, but 14.7 per cent higher YoY.

Argentina’s cement market expands 9.1% YoY

Argentina’s cement plants shipped 1,062,099t of cement, including exports, in November 2013, a MoM decline of 7.8 per cent but a YoY rise of 8.1 per cent. The domestic market absorbed around 1,046,486t, both from domestic and overseas producers – some 7.9 per cent less than October 2013. However, when compared with November last year, sales expanded by 9.1 per cent.

Loma Negra to proceed with San Juan plant

Loma Negra has Loma Negra approved the construction of a new cement plant in San Juan, according to the Argentine cement producer’s manager, Osvaldo Schütz. While the company had shelved the project, which was to start this year, following the strong protest of the local Pocito population, Mr Schütz said the plant would be built but did not specify the exact location. In October 2013, Argentinean cement plants shipped 1,151,413t of cement, including exports, representing a 9.5 per cent increase compared to the previous month and a 16.2 per cent rise YoY. Domestic consumption, including imports, reached 1,136,672t, up nine per cent from September and increasing by 19.1 per cent YoY .

Argentina: cement market expands 17% YoY

In September, Argentina’s cement producers delivered 1,050,170t of cement, including exports. While this represents a 2.7 per cent decrease when compared with August dispatches, the volume rose 15.8 per cent YoY. The internal market absorbed 1,041,084t, 2.8 per cent less than the previous month. However, when compared with September 2012, Argentine producers enjoyed a 17 per cent rise in sales.

Cimpor outlines Latin America spend

Cimpor is to invest some BRL3bn (US$1.319bn) over the next four years which is expected to include new factories in Brazil and Argentina. Company CEO Ricardo Lima said the main objective is to reinforce Cimpor's position in Brazil where it operates in all regions except the north. Argentine monthly shipments rise 24% YoY

During August 2013, Argentine Portland cement factories shipped 1,076,148t (including exports), representing an increase of six per cent compared to July 2013 and a rise of 25 per cent against the same month of last year. Data from local association AFCP showed that domestic cement consumption, including imports, reached 1,074,393 t , exhibiting a r ise of 6.9 per cent compared to the previous month and 27.7 per cent YoY.

Argentina's July cement demand gains 11% YoY

Argentina’s cement plants dispatched 1.015Mt of cement to domestic and export markets, representing a MoM rise of nine per cent and a YoY increase of 11.3 per cent. The domestic market also enjoyed a significant advance in cement deliveries, which reached 1.005Mt, including imports. Compared with the previous month, this reflects a 9.9 per cent rise and with July 2012, domestic sales are up 11.1 per cent.
