Argentina’s cement sales drop in November

Argentine Portland cement shipments, including exports, slipped by 0.9 per cent MoM to 982,116t in November after registering two consecutive months of improvement. Cementos Molins posts EUR31m profit, up 85%

Spain’s Cementos Molins has posted a profit of EUR31.16m in the first nine months of the year. The 85 per cent rise has been attributed to successful foreign business, which continues to offset the decline in Spanish sales. The company’s operations in Spain have seen profits decline on the back of a 16 per cent drop in domestic sales as Spanish cement demand continues to post further lows. Argentine shipments see MoM gains

In September 2012, Argentina shipments (including exports) reached 907,186t, representing 5.4 per cent increase compared to August. However, compared to September last year, shipments fell 17.8 per cent. Domestic consumption reached 889,649t, representing a rise of 5.8 per cent from the previous month. Argentina sees August declines

In August 2012, Argentina cement producers shipped 860,601t, including exports, a decrease of 5.6 per cent from July and down 16.5 per cent on August 2011. The latest data from Asociacion de Fabricantes de Cemento (AFCP) shows domestic shipments in August reached 841,124t, representing a decline of seven per cent from the previous month and a fall of 16.6 per cent compared to August 2011.    

Argentina July shipments edge ahead YoY

Argentina cement plants shipped 912,106t in July 2012 - including exports - a rise of 0.7 per cent from June but down two per cent from the same period a year ago. Court puts industry fine on hold, Argentina

Argentina’s Supreme Court has put on hold a ARS$300m (US$66m) fine imposed on cement companies in 2005 by the competition authority CNDC based on evidence of alleged collusion and dividing the market between them. The cement companies listed are Loma Negra, Cemento San Martin, Juan Minetti, Cementos Avellaneda and Petroquimica Comodoro Rivadavia that have been contesting the ruling since.

Argentina’s June shipments rise MoM

During June 2012, Argentina shipped 906,263t of cement, including exports, representing an increase of 1.9 per cent compared to May 2012, data from the Asociación de Fabricantes de Cemento Portland (AFCP) showed. However, compared to June 2011, volumes were down 1.3%. Domestic consumption was 888,146t, a rise of 1.9 per cent over the previous month and an increase of 0.1 per cent compared with June 2011.

Argentina: May shipments decline 11.8% YoY

In May 2012,  total Argentine Portland cement shipments (including exports) were 889,209t representing a YoY decline of 11.8 per cent, data from Asociacion de Fabricantes de Cemento (AFCP) showed. However, the May figures were up on a monthly basis by 11.4 per cent compared to April 2012. Domestic cement shipments (including imports) reached 871,478t during May 2012.

Argentinian Court of Appeal rejects cartelisation appeal

Argentina’s Court of Appeal has rejected the appeal made by Loma Negra, Juan Minetti, Cementos Avellaneda, Petroquímica Comodoro Rivadavia and Cemento San Martín, upholding the previous price-fixing ruling and the multi-million peso fines attached. The companies were awarded fines of ARS300m (US$66.5m) as penalty for anti-competitive practices between 1981-99. Loma Negra will be expected to pay ARS138.7m, Juan Minetti ARS100.1m, Cementos Avellaneda ARS34.6m, Cementos San Martín ARS28.5m...

Argentine April shipments decline

Argentine shipments (including exports) in April 2012 fell 17.9% from the previous month to 798,513t, data from the Argentine cement association, AFCP, shows. Compared to April 2011, shipments were down 16.5%. Domestic sales, including imports, reached 782,379t, a YoY drop of 17.9 per cent.
