Uruguayan cement producers sold 203.100t of cement in 3Q17, representing a 3.4 per cent YoY. While 159,900t was sold in the domestic market, cement manufacturers shipped 43,600t for export. The first shipment of 3964t of cement was unloaded at the Argentine port of Barranqueras, Chaco region. The Bolivian cement was purchased by Cemento Avellaneda and will be distributed throughout the north of Argentina. Loma Negra to buy 15MW of renewable energy from Genneia

Argentina’s Loma Negra will purchase 15MW of power from renewable energy company Genneia. The power will be generated by Genneia’s Rawson wind farm in Chubut province. The Argentine cement market expanded 6.8 per cent YoY in December 2017 with demand at 1,004,332t, according to the latest data by the country’s cement association, AFCP. In December 2016 national demand stood at 940,055t. However, when compared with November 2017, the market contracted by 14.9 per cent. Holcim Argentina has announced a US$120m investment to raise cement capacity at its Malagueño plant by 45 per cent. The Argentine cement market expanded 16.5 per cent in November 2017 with consumption increasing to 1,179,763t from 1,013,083t, according to the latest data from the country’s cement producers' association, AFCP.
