Martin Brydon to step down as CEO of Adelaide Brighton

Martin Brydon, CEO of Adelaide Brighton, has announced plans to retire later this year after four years in the position. Mr Brydon will stay with the company until a new chief executive is found, according to a statement made to the ASX. Cement Australia's Christy Drive operation has been served fines of AUD30,000 (US$23,500) from the Environment Protection Authority for improper storage of its materials at Port Kembla. The Cement Australia facility earned the fines after the EPA found two licence conditions had been broken on numerous occasions at the plant, operated by Port Kembla Milling Pty Ltd. Adelaide Brighton has announced its results for the full-year period, ended 31 December 2017. The company saw a 2.3 per cent YoY fall in net profit to AUD182m (US$141m), but revenue increased 11.7 per cent to finish at AUD1.56bn. BGC Cement is in the final stages of acquiring two industrial lots in West Kalgoorlie, Australia, which will become a major new depot for storage and distribution of cement. Beyond Zero Emissions (BZE) has set a plan for Australia’s cement industry to reach zero carbon emissions by the next decade. Adelaide Brighton Cement has reported issues with manufacturing equipment at its Birkenhead plant. Large plumes of dust were spotted leaving the chimney of the facility last Sunday, according to Westside Weekly. Hanson Holdings Australia, a wholly-owned subsidiary of HeidelbergCement, has acquired Alex Fraser Group from Swire Investments for around EUR135m.  Alex Fraser is a leading producer of recycled building materials with three production units in Melbourne and two in Brisbane as well as two asphalt plants in Melbourne.  Including synegy benefits, estimated at around EUR3m, Alex Fraser expects an EBITDA of some GBP20m in 2018.

Wagners' share price rises 25% on first day

Wagners had a successful opening day on the Australian Securities Exchange with shares rising by 25 per cent, according to SBS News. The new listing now has a market value of AUD549m (US$412m). Wagners is the largest independent cement manufacturer and supplier in southeast Queensland, with approximately one third of the market. The company has 450 domestic and international customers.
