Cemex to pay Clean Air Act violation penalty, USA

The US Environmental Protection Agency (EPA) and the US. Justice Department announced today that Cemex, Inc has agreed to pay a US$1.4m penalty for Clean Air Act violations at its cement plant in Fairborn, Ohio. EU CO2 benchmark a challenge, warns Cembureau

Cembureau, the European Cement Association, warns the European cement industry that it may face a ‘very tough reduction of CO2 emissions’ as a result of the new benchmarking decision for free allocation agreed last December by the European Commission Climate Change Committee. The decision, which still has to undergo parliamentary scrutiny in the first quarter of 2011, agreed an EU-wide clinker benchmark of 766kg CO2/t of grey clinker and an EU-wide benchmark of 987kg CO2/t of white clinker. ...

Cemex UK achieves 52% alternative fuel usage – targets 100%

Cemex UK has announced that it replaced more than 52% of the traditional fossil fuels used to heat its cement kilns with alternative fuels during 2010, up from 45% in 2009. Based on the renewable organic materials content in the alternative fuels referred to as biomass, this meant Cemex saved nearly 194,000t of CO2 over a 12 month period across its cement plants. Indocement considering waste processing plant

PT Indocement Tunggal Prakarsa is collaborating with PT Jasa Sarana, a West Java government-owned enterprise, to carry out a feasibility study for a waste processing plant in Nambo, Bogor. “Indocement is located near Nambo. Indocement can utilize this alternative fuel to replace coal,” said Indocement’s financial director Christian Kartawijaya in Bandung yesterday.
