Italgen granted licence for wind farm, Egypt

Italgen, an energy affiliate of Italcementi, an Italian firm with interests in the Egyptian cement industry, has been granted a licence by the Ministry of Electricity and Energy to set up a private wind farm on the Gulf of Suez. The agreement follows the signature of a Memorandum of Understanding between the ministry and Italgen in 2007 for the generation of up to 400 mw of wind generation capacity in the Gabal Zeit area. Lafarge introduces cement collection & recycling services

From this month, Lafarge Cement’s merchant customers can arrange for out of date packed cement to be collected straight from their yard, via their usual ordering system. 

The service applies to all Lafarge’s packed cements, whether a merchant wishes to dispose of one bag or a full lorry load. Last year the company launched a similar pallet recycling service.

In celebration of Earth Day, Holcim Canada undertook various activities from planting trees and grounds clean-up, to creating awareness amongst employees to be more environmentally conscious. The Environmental Protection Agency is putting the Lehigh Cupertino’s cement plant on notice. For years some residents living near the plant have complained about toxic pollutants coming from the facility. Now, the EPA has just issued what is called a "notice of violation" against Lehigh.
