Rohrdorfer starts CO2 capture plant

02 March 2023, Published under Cement News

ANDRITZ partner Rohrdorfer has started up Germany's first amine-based CO 2  capture plant for cement plants at its main site in Upper Bavaria. This technology developed by ANDRITZ will prospectively make a considerable contribution to CO 2  reduction and thus to a sustainable circular economy. The special separation process recovers CO 2  as a basic material for a large number of valuable intermediate products for further use in hygiene and pharmaceutical products as well as in the beverag...

CEMEX extends VeryNile plastic waste initiative

01 March 2023, Published under Cement News

The CEMEX and VeryNile initiative have expanded the scope of the partnership to reach the CEMEX Egypt's hometown of Assiut. This comes after the success achieved by their partnership in cleaning the Nile River from plastic waste in Cairo and Giza governorates. The expansion process included contracting a group from the local fishing community from Assiut who collected four loaded trucks of plastic waste from the Nile during their first month. Following the waste hierarchy, CEMEX will us...

FLSmidth achieves waste heat bypass record at Cement Panam

01 March 2023, Published under Cement News

Cement Panam ’s greenfield cement plant in the Dominican Republic set a new record for FLSmidth for the 300m distance covered for a waste heat bypass system from the clinker cooler to the finish mill.  FLSmidth used modelling to engineer a suitable system for such a long waste heat recovery system. “We had to main concerns: heat loss and velocity,” explains Srdan Nisic, FLSmidth’s sales manager - Projects & Retrofits.  “We used CFD modelling and other simulation tools to work out the ...

SBTi validates Heidelberg Materials' 2030 CO2 reduction targets

28 February 2023, Published under Cement News

The Science Based Targets initiative (SBTi) has validated Heidelberg Materials’ 2030 carbon reduction targets under its new 1.5°C framework.   Heidelberg Materials commits to reduce gross scope 1 and 2 GHG emissions by 26.7 per cent per tonne of cementitious material by 2030 from the base year 2020. Within this target, Heidelberg Materials commits to reduce gross scope 1 GHG emissions by 24 per cent per tonne of cementitious material and scope 2 GHG emissions by 65 per cent per tonne o...

VDZ study researches future cement and concrete resources in 2050

28 February 2023, Published under Cement News

The new VDZ study "Resources of the future for cement and concrete – Potential and action strategies" describes a possible 2050 scenario aimed at further reducing primary raw material utilisation. In Germany the various by-products and recycled materials already employed today enable more than 10Mta of primary raw materials to be saved, depending on their availability. "Blast furnace slag from ironmaking and fly ash from coal-fired power generation in particular play a major role", ...

CEMEX signs ETFuels agreement

24 February 2023, Published under Cement News

CEMEX has signed an agreement with green fuels producer ETFuels, to transform CO 2 from CEMEX’s Alicante cement plant in Spain into green fuels.   Under this agreement, ETFuels will combine up to 450,000tpa of captured CO 2 with green hydrogen to produce more sustainable fuels in the form of green methanol (e-methanol). CEMEX is evaluating several strategies and partners to perform CO 2 capture for this project.  “Our goal of reaching net-zero CO 2 emissions is achievable and will b...
