Indonesian cement market grows to 5.2Mt in March

Cement sales in Indonesia increased by 3.5 per cent YoY to 5,204,852t in March 2018 when compared with 5,027,799t recorded in the year-ago period, according to figures by the Indonesian Cement Association (ASI). In February off-take in the domestic market advanced by 5.9 per cent YoY from 4,554,653t to 4,821,262t. Dominican cement producers saw a 3.7 per cent fall in domestic sales and a five per cent decline in exports in the January-February 2018 period, according to the President of the Dominican Association of Cement Producers (Adocem), Rayza J Rodriguez. Total shipments of Portland and blended cement in the US and Puerto Rico increased 5.7 per cent YoY to 5.752Mt in January 2018, according to the US Geological Survey (USGS). Cement consumption in Argentina increased 6.2 per cent in March 2018 to 1,091,121t from 1,027,094t in March 2017, according to the country’s cement association, AFCP. When compared with the previous month, sales to the domestic market advanced 18.1 per cent from 924,085t in February 2018. Pakistan reached its highest-ever capacity utlisation at 93.7 per cent during the 9MFY18 period, ended March 2018. In total, cement dispatches rose 14.7 per cent YoY to 34.75Mt, according to figures supplied by the All Pakistan Cement Manufacturers Association (APCMA). Ciments de Bizerte has restarted exports after 10 years with a 25,000t shipment of clinker to Cameroon. The consignment is part of the company’s renewed efforts to enter the export markets with bulk deliveries of clinker and cement. LafargeHolcim Algeria carried out its third export shipment of grey cement to Gambia from the port of Arzew on 28 March, the company said. Following two earlier shipments in December 2017 and March 2018, some 30,000t of bulk grey cement was delivered from its Oggaz cement plant in Mascara to Gambia. Vietnam sold an estimated 7.96Mt of cement in March, representing a 4.5 per cent MoM increase and 25 per cent of the full-year target, according to the Vietnam Building Material Association. Algeria's Aoulef works exports first cement to Niger

El-Hamel-owned Aoulef cement plant, in Adrar, Algeria, carried out the first Algerian cement exports to Niger, according to Minister of Industry and Mines, Youcef Yousfi.  The new plant, which entered service in December 2017 exported 950t of cement overland to Niger – the first of regular shipments. Yanbu Cement Co has signed a one-year agreement to export 1Mt of clinker and 0.5Mt of cement as of April 2018.
