Pakistan: positive expectations for FY18

The Pakistan cement industry is likely to wrap up FY18 on a positive note. Provisional data show that cement dispatches for June 2018 increased three per cent YoY to 2.81Mt, when compared with 2.73Mt in June 2017, according to a report of IGI Finex Securities Ltd. GICA plans its first export shipment to west Africa

Algeria’s GICA has signed a maritime contract of carriage with CNAN Nord, a subsidiary of state-run shipping group GATMA, for the company’s first shipment of 10,000t of cement to west Africa. GICA plans to export between 1-1.5Mt of its production in 2018, according to the Ministry of Industry and Mining.

Vietnam’s cement market expands 29% in June

Vietnamese cement producers have sold 8.71Mt in June, up 30 per cent YoY, said the Vietnam Building Material Association. Domestic demand reached 6.91Mt, representing a 29 per cent increase when compared with June 2017, including 2.18Mt sold by Vietnam Cement Industry Corp (Vicem). Pakistan Cement industry export revenue rises 9% in May

According to Pakistan's Federal Bureau of Statistics, the Pakistan cement industry earned a foreign exchange revenue of US$20.78m by exporting 446,741t of cement in May 2018 compared to US$19.147m on 404,898t of cement in previous month. This represents a MoM growth of 8.6 per cent and 10.3 per cent in terms of value and quantity, respectively. Uruguayan producers sees 18% rise in sales

Total cement sales in the 1Q18 in Uruguay totalled 219,000t, representing an increase of 18 per cent YoY. Of this total, 74 per cent were sold in the domestic market while some 26 per cent were exported, according to the Chamber of Industry (CIU). Peru’s cement market remained largely stable in May with consumption edging up by 0.6 per cent YoY to 0.778Mt and by 2.5 per cent from 0.759Mt the previous month, according to the latest data by Asocem, the country’s cement association. Cement exports from Pakistan are likely to benefit from the Pakistani rupee depreciation against the US dollar as reported in foreign exchange markets. Argentine cement consumption decreased by 4.4 per cent to 924,979t in May 2018, according to AFCP, the country’s cement association. When compared with the previous month, demand contracted by 3.5 per cent from 958,184t in April.
