Algerian cement exports surge to US$42m

Cement exports from Algeria reached US$42.41m between January-July 2019, more than septupling YoY, according to the Algerian customs service. Exports of hydraulic cement and clinker rose from US$5.03m in the 7M18. Forecasts by the Ministry of Industry and Mines show that the country is aiming to lift its cement exports to US$500m over the next five years. Hamma Bouziane achieves 95% production target

GICA-owned Société des Ciments de Hamma Bouziane (SCHB) in Constantine, Algeria, has achieved “up to 95 per cent of its production target” for 2019. GICA ships 37,000t of clinker to Côte d’Ivoire

GICA-owned Hadjar Soud de Skidka (SCHS) plant in Algeria has exported 37,000t of clinker from Annaba port, according to its CEO Youcef Merabet. GICA to commission new Sigus plant in March 2019

Construction of the new Sigus integrated cement plant in Oum El Bouaghi province, Algeria, is 87 per cent complete, according to Sofiane Bensaci, Finance Director of the company. With a production capacity of 2.2Mta, the Sigus plant will employ 150 direct jobs and 2000 indirect jobs, and commence production in March 2019. Total investment in the plant, which is part of the state-owned Groupe Industriel des Ciments d’Algerie (GICA), is DZD51bn (USD429m).

GICA, LafargeHolcim and Biskria are expected to export 0.5Mta of cement and clinker from Algeria by the end of 2018 – mainly via the port of Djendjen, according to Abdesselem Bouab, general manager of the port. GICA plans its first export shipment to west Africa

Algeria’s GICA has signed a maritime contract of carriage with CNAN Nord, a subsidiary of state-run shipping group GATMA, for the company’s first shipment of 10,000t of cement to west Africa. GICA plans to export between 1-1.5Mt of its production in 2018, according to the Ministry of Industry and Mining.

GICA exports first clinker to Europe

The Algerian Industry Ministry said GICA exported its first shipment of clinker to Europe in April. A subsidiary of state-run GICA Group delivered 45,000t. The shipment is part of a contract to export 200,000t to Europe. GICA is expected to export more cement to African and European countries in the near future, the statement noted.
