Indonesian cement sales rose 2.7 per cent last month to 4.4Mt from a year earlier, state-owned Semen Indonesia announced, citing data from Indonesia Cement Association (ASI). Semen Indonesia has inaugurated a new cement packing plant in Banjarmasin, South Kalimantan, taking the company’s total number of packing facilities to 23. The plant is estimated to have cost IDR120bn (US$10m), the company said in a statement posted on its website on Thursday. Net income at Semen Indonesia rose 11 per cent in 2013 to IDR5.37trn (US$462m) from a year earlier as the company boosts sales through expansion and strengthens its market position. President Susilo Bambang Yudhoyono of Indonesia has officially inaugurated Semen Tonasa’s Line V project and power plant in Pangkajene Island District, South Sulawesi. Semen Indonesia plans to spend IDR4trn (US$328.81m) to construct two plants in Rembang (Central Java) and Indarung (West Sumatra), the company’s CEO, Dwi Sutjipto, has said. Indonesian cement consumption is expected to grow at a similar rate to 2013 despite cement price increases, as producers look to compensate for higher electricity costs and lower growth forecasts. PT Holcim Indonesia Tbk reported lower sales volume in 2013, down two per cent to 8.43Mt compared to the 8.58Mt of cement sold in 2012.
