Indonesian sales growth has slowed over the first nine months of this year despite hitting a monthly record in September. Data from the Indonesian Cement Association (ASI) showed that domestic sales totalled 41.58Mt between Jan-September 2013, an increase of 5.3 per cent compared to 39.48Mt in the same period of last year. Semen Indonesia secures loan

State-owned cement producer PT Semen Indonesia (Persero) Tbk has secured a US$100m loan from PT Bank Mandiri Persero Tbk and Standard Chartered Bank with a 5-8 year tenure to refinance its outstanding debt, said CEO Dwi Soetjipto in Bisnis Indonesia. The firm also seeks loan totalling US$150m to partly fund its US$200me expansion in Myanmar.

SCG outlines Indonesian plant spend

Thailand-based Siam Cement Group (SCG) is expanding its southeast Asian presence by constructing a new cement plant on the island of West Java, Indonesia, through its subsidiary PT Semen Jawa. “The total investment for this factory is IDR3.4trn [US$304.7m],” SCG CEO Kan Trakulhoon told local press on Monday. The greenfield facility will have a capacity of 1.8Mta.

PT Semen Baturaja anticipates third-quarter 2013 production and sales to rise by 14 and seven per cent YoY, respectively, but full-year sales are expected to fall short of an earlier target. Indonesian cement sales fell 5.8 per cent to 3.3Mt in August 2013, according to latest data from the Indonesian Cement Association. Compared to July 2013, cement sales in Indonesia were down by 32 per cent, however, there was an almost two-week holiday in August (the Idul Fitri or Lebaran festivities that follow after the holy fasting month of Ramadan).
