The Borneo-based Sarawak Economic Development Corp (SEDC) and the Bintulu Development Authority (BDA) are planning to create a joint venture to import cement from Thailand to address the supply shortage in the state of Sarawak. Siam Cement Group has laid out its investment plans for the next five years, showing a strong emphasis on environmental issues and moving towards establishing circular economies.

Thailand-based Siam Cement Group (SCG) has entered into a joint venture (JV) with India’s BigBloc Construction (BCL) to build a greenfield plant to manufacture aerated autoclaved concrete (AAC) blocks and AAC panels. Thailand-based Siam Cement Group has seen revenue from its cement and building products business reach THB46,185m in the 1Q21, an increase of 15 per cent compared to the previous quarter. Thailand’s Siam Cement has reported a nine per cent decline in revenue from sales to THB399.94bn (US$13.3bn) for 2020, compared to THB437.98bn in the previous year. Siam Cement PCL reported a profit of THB9384m (US$301.6m) in the 2Q20, or a 35 per cent rise in earnings QoQ and 33 per cent YoY, bolstered by its chemical business performance. Siam Cement is to acquire a Vietnamese packaging materials maker, Bien Hoa Packaging. The group will purchase Bien Hoa Packaging through a joint venture with top Japanese cardboard maker Rengo.
