The Slovenian cement producer Salonit Anhovo has won a bronze EBRD Sustainable Energy Award for substantial progress in the use of non-hazardous solid recovered waste in the energy mix. Cement demand in Brazil continues fall in 1H17

Cement sales in Brazil in the 1H17 fell 8.8 per cent YoY as the domestic market required 26.015Mt of cement, according to Brazil’s cement association, Sindicato Nacional de la Industria del Cemento (SNIC). In the southeast of the country, the largest segment, sales fell from 13.12Mt in 1H16 to 12.21Mt in 1H17, representing a decrease of 6.9 per cent. Bim Son Cement JSC has awarded Loesche the contract to supply a vertical roller mill for the grinding of clinker and granulated blast furnace slag at the Bim Son cement plant in Thanh Hóa province, Vietnam. FLSmidth has signed an engineering, procurement and supply of equipment contract with Meghna Cement Mills for a cement grinding unit at the producer’s existing cement line in Mongla, Bangladesh. Pakistan dispatched 40.315Mt of cement of during fiscal year 2016-17, up 3.71 per cent YoY, the latest data from the All Pakistan Cement Manufacturers Association (APCMA) shows. Pakistan International Bulk Terminal Ltd (PIBT) has started commercial operations from the country's first and only common-user coal, cement and clinker terminal at Port Qasim, near Karachi. Total shipments of Portland and blended cement in the United States and Puerto Rico in April 2017 were about 7.6Mt, slightly less than sales in April 2016, latest data from the US Geological Survey shows.
