New plants boost Uganda cement industry

In the coming month, the Ugandan cement industry is expected to expand with two new plants in Tororo district as Simba Cement and Hima Cement commission their projects. Kohat Cement (KOHC) has informed the Pakistan Stock Exchange (PSX) that it earned a net profit after tax of PKR652m (US$5.6m) in 3QFY18 (January-March 2018) compared to PKR931m in 3QFY17, down 30 per cent. During 3QFY18 net sales were recorded at PKR3.52bn. Vicat is to invest some EUR223m in its Indian operations. Of this, EUR60m will be spend on a 1.75Mta grinding centre at Vizianagam in Andhra Pradesh for completion by the middle of 2022. The Reserve Bank of Zimbabwe has agreed to grant PPC Zimbabwe an export incentive above the usual five per cent. The company applied for the incentive following a drop in its exports from 0.1Mta in 2014-15 to zero on the back of currency depreciations against the US dollar. The West African Development Bank has approved a XOF25bn loan to help fund a third production line at Ciments du Sahel’s plant in Kirène, near Rufisque, Senegal.
