Official Indonesia cement industry statistics for January 2016 show robust gains in domestic demand and exports compared to the previous year. Peru’s cement demand edges down in January

Cement consumption in Peru slipped by 0.4 per cent YoY from 816,000t in January 2015 to 813,000t in January 2016, according to the country’s cement association, Asocem. In addition, clinker exports reached 28,000t, down 69 per cent, while cement exports fell by 29 per cent to 29,000t during the first month of 2016. On the supply side, production increased 0.1 per cent from 857,000t to 858,000t. Cement imports totalled 50,000t, up 13 per cent YoY, while 44,000t clinker was also imported....

Kenya November 2015 demand down 5.5%

Cement consumption in Kenya fell by 5.5 per cent from 520,833t in October to 492,340Mt in November 2015, according to the Kenyan Bureau of National Statistics. Output decreased 4.8 per cent to 522,446t in November from 547,509t the previous month. For the first 11 months of 2015, domestic demand reached 5.138Mt while production totalled 5.743Mt.

Argentina’s cement demand fell 7.5 per cent YoY and eight per cent MoM to 858,453t in January 2016, according to figures published by AFCP, the country’s cement association. Exports plunged by nearly 74 per cent YoY from 16,589t in January 2015 to 4334t, the data also showed.

Uptick in Indian demand expected from next fiscal

Cement demand in India is likely to see an uptick in the next financial year starting 1 April on expected pick-up in construction and housing activity as well as improvement in rural demand, says Reliance Securities. Though demand improved in January, pricing remained dismal due to oversupply and the attempt by new entrants to increase market share, the brokerage adds. But that should slow and construction demand recovery, improving industry profitability in the longer term, Reliance says.

Cement deliveries in Colombia rose by 12.5 per cent YoY to 1.107Mt in December 2015, according to the latest data by the country’s statistics office, DANE. Cement consumption in Spain has increased by 5.3 per cent to 11,408,287t in 2015, according to Oficemen, the country's cement association.
