Moroccan cement demand has fallen 5.7 per cent in the first four months of 2018, according to the country’s Department of Studies and Financial Forecasts, Ministry of Economy and Finance. The decline in cement sales reflects the moderate decline in April, when sales fell by 2.3 per cent following a 15.1 per cent fall in March. The drop has been attributed to heavy rains.

Cement sales in Brazil increased 8.9 per cent to 4.352Mt in April 2018 when compared with 3.997Mt in April 2017, according to preliminary industry data published by the country’s cement association, SNIC. Indonesian cement consumption advanced six per cent YoY in April to 5.337Mt, according to the Indonesia Cement Association. Growth was particularly strong in Sumatra, where demand increased by 12.2 per cent. Senegal cement production up 6% in 1Q18

Cement production in Senegal increased by 97,500t in the first quarter of 2018. Sococim and Ciments du Sahel produced 1.832Mt of cement, up 5.6 per cent when compared with the 1.734Mt manufactured in 1Q17. The figures do not include output at Dangote Sénégal’s 1.5Mta plant in Pout. Output in 1Q18 was driven by higher domestic sales, which advanced by 50.6 per cent to 1.279Mt from 0.848Mt in 1Q17. Exports fell 37.1 per cent to 564,900t from 898,200t in the year-ago period.

Peru’s cement market expanded by 13.5 per cent YoY in April 2018 as cement deliveries reached 0.817Mt, according to the latest data from the country’s cement association, Asocem. Cement demand in Spain saw its growth slow to 7.6 per cent in March 2018, when compared with the previous month, according Oficemen’s Cement Demand Index (IDC).
