Moroccan cement demand declined 15.1 per cent YoY in March 2018 to 1,124,152t from 1,324,221t in the third month of 2017, according to the latest data from the country's Ministry of Housing and Urbanisation. Domestic deliveries in Switzerland declined by 2.2 per cent in the first quarter of 2018, according to the country’s cement association, Cemsuisse. Volumes decreased from 853,180t in 1Q17 to 834,252t in 1Q18 as cold weather in March extended the winter period and fewer working days affected cement demand.

Total shipments of Portland and blended cement in the US and Puerto Rico increased 5.7 per cent YoY to 5.752Mt in January 2018, according to the US Geological Survey (USGS). Cement consumption in Argentina increased 6.2 per cent in March 2018 to 1,091,121t from 1,027,094t in March 2017, according to the country’s cement association, AFCP. Pakistan reached its highest-ever capacity utlisation at 93.7 per cent during the 9MFY18 period, ended March 2018. In total, cement dispatches rose 14.7 per cent YoY to 34.75Mt, according to figures supplied by the All Pakistan Cement Manufacturers Association (APCMA). Colombia’s grey cement sales contracted 4.8 per cent YoY to 959,500t in February 2018, according to DANE, the national statistics office. Cement demand in Spain expanded by 11 per cent in the 12 months up to January 2018 when compared with the year-ago rolling year, according to the new Cement Barometer, prepared by Oficemen, the country’s cement association. The latest figure has seen domestic consumption rise for 11 consecutive months with YoY double-digit increases noted in the past two months. However, cement and clinker exports have continued their decline, falling 10 per cent in 2017.
