Egypt sees 151% cement export surge in 2021

Cement exports from Egypt are up 151 per cent YoY in 2021 to US$456m from US$182m in 2020, according to a recent report by the Export Council for Building Materials, Refractory and Metallurgy Industries. The increase in exports was driven by a higher demand for Egyptian cement, said Medhat Stefanos, chairman of the cement division of the Federation of Egyptian Industries. In addition, domestic producers are focussing on expanding their market to Africa.

Cement output index in Italy sees 31% advance in 12M21

Cement production in Italy in December 2021 saw a one per cent drop when compared with the index with a 2015 base, an improvement when compared with the November 2021when the fall was six per cent, according to Federbeton, Italy’s concrete association. Vietnam sees fall in January domestic sales while exports advance

Vietnam saw a 24 per cent drop in cement sales to 4,133,512t in January 2022 when compared with January 2021, according to the Vietnam National Cement Association (VNCA). Of this total, VICEM sold 1,382,175t, down 20 per cent YoY, while other associated companies saw their sales shrink 27 per cent YoY to 911,337t in January 2022. Lafarge Algeria aims to export 3Mt

Holcim -owned Lafarge Algérie has carried out two more export shipments from the port of Oran, Algeria. A cargo of 35,000t of bulk grey cement and a 30,000t shipment of white cement in big bags were supplied by the Oggaz plant and are destined for the Americas. Cement dispatches to the Peruvian cement market by Asocem members reached 1.012Mt, up two per cent YoY and by 22 per cent when compared with January 2020, according to Peru’s cement association, Asocem. Total cement sales in Brazil (including exports) declined by 8.6 per cent YoY to 4.6Mt in January 2022, according the country’s cement association, SNIC. Cement producers in Iran produced 4.21Mt of cement and 5.23Mt of clinker, according to the Iranian Cement Association. They supplied the domestic market with 4.23Mt while clinker and cement exports reached 0.81Mt and 0.24Mt, respectively.

Senegal sales up 12% YoY

Cement sales in Senegal advanced 12.7 per cent MoM and by 11.9 per cent YoY in November 2021, according to its National Agency for Statistics and Demography (ANSD). Output from the plants of SOCOCIM, Dangote and Ciments du Sahel increased by 11 per cent MoM  and by 20.7 per cent YoY in November 2021. Exports declined 5.6 per cent in November 2021 when compared with export shipments in October 2021 although YoY they were up 29.6 per cent.
