Argentine cement market contracts 18% in Nov 2018

Argentina’s cement consumption fell 17.8 per cent to 970,248t in November 2018 when compared with 1.18Mt in November 2017. When compared with the previous month, the decline was 6.7 per cent, according to the country’s cement association, AFCP. Iran exports 7.65Mt of cement and clinker

Iran exported more than 7.65Mt of cement and clinker during the first seven months of the current Iranian year (21 March –22 October 2018). Exports amounted to a 10.2 per cent increase compared with the same period of last year. Abdolreza Sheikhan, the secretary of Iran's Cement Association said cement accounted for 3.8Mt of the exports. New Rudny plant to start export to Russia

A new US$100m cement plant was launched in Rudny, Kostanay region, Kazakhstan, to meet the requirements of the domestic cement industry as well as Russia’s southern regions, Kazakh media reported. Tajikistan reports 30% increase in exports

Tajikistan exported 1.1Mt of cement to neighbouring countries in the first 10 months of 2018, an increase of 30 per cent compared to the year-ago period, according to the Ministry of Industry and New Technologies (MoINT). Iran's cement exports rise 7%

Iran’s cement exports increased seven per cent YoY to 3.8Mt in the first seven months of the Iranian year started 21 March, according to Abdurreza Sheykhan, chairman of Iran's Cement Industry Employers Association. Uruguayan 3Q domestic cement sales up 14%

Cement sales in Uruguay increased 14 per cent YoY to 181,000t in the July-September quarter, according to a report by the country’s Chamber of Industries. However, exports fell by 74 per cent to 12,000t during the same period. Around 60 per cent of exports are delivered to Paraguay, followed by Argentina (27 per cent) and Brazil (13 per cent). Imports were negligible in the third quarter of 2018 and in the year to date, accounted for around 8.9 per cent of apparent consumption.

Tabuk Cement to export to Yemen

Saudi Arabia’s Tabuk Cement has signed a memorandum of understanding with Yemen to export cement. The company will export 6000t of cement in a three-month deal with the country. Tabuk Cement recently reported that its losses widened 57 per cent YoY in the 3Q17, reaching SAR19.19m (US$5.11m) from SAR12.2m in the year-ago period. In the first nine months of 2018, the company’s net loss grew to SAR66.49m.

Spain sees 9% rise in demand in September

The Cement Demand Index has seen an 8.5 per cent increase YoY in September, but slipped 0.2 per cent MoM, according to data published by Oficemen. In the October 2017-September 2018 period, it is estimated that Spain has consumed 13Mt of cement with growth attributed to the residential sector. Clinker and cement exports continue to fall for the 16th month running. In August they fell by 8.4 per cent YoY.
