Sarbottam Cement, a newcomer to the Nepalese cement industry, has started commercial operations from its new greenfield plant. The project is promoted by local company Saurabh Group while a foreign investor holds a 45 per cent stake. The Sarbottam Cement plant will have the capacity to produce 400,000t of clinker in the first stage, and then 1Mt in the future, according to the company's website. PT Semen Indonesia is seeking loans worth IDR2.2-3.1trn (US$178m-251m) to build a new cement factory in Aceh province, at the northern end of Sumatra, Kontan newspaper reported citing Finance Director Ahyanizzaman. The new facility is expected to have a capacity of around 3Mta to meet increasing consumption in Aceh, Medan, Dumai and Riau. Construction is slated to begin in the first half of 2015.
