Cement dispatches in Peru reached 1.088Mt in February 2022, up five per cent when compared with February 2021, according to the Peruvian cement association, Asocem. Cement consumption in Spain increased 14 per cent YoY to 1,269,455t, representing the best sales in February in the last five years, according to Oficemen, the Spanish cement association. “The cement industry is experiencing an energy emergency situation. The State Procurement of Madagascar (SPM) has imported cement at a reduced price to normalise the price of cement in the market and support the population after the passage of cyclones, reports L’Express. A 50kg bag of cement, imported by Lucky Cement via the Toamasina depot, now costs MGA25,500 (US$6.35), down from MGA26,500 previously.

Total shipments of Portland and blended cement shipments in the USA and Puerto Rico saw a 5.4 per cent uplift in December 2021 when compared with December 2020, according to the US Geological Survey (USGS). Cement consumption in Argentina increased 15.6 per cent YoY to 938,327t in February 2022 when compared with 811,697t in the second month of the previous year, according to AFCP, the national cement association. Cement production in Italy in December 2021 saw a one per cent drop when compared with the index with a 2015 base, an improvement when compared with the November 2021when the fall was six per cent, according to Federbeton, Italy’s concrete association. Argentina’s cement market saw a two per cent contraction to 877,200t in January 2022 when compared with January 2021 when sales reached 895,416t, reports the country’s cement association, AFCP.
