Kazakhstan lifts import restrictions

Kazakhstan has lifted the restriction on cement imports from third countries, Trend reports. As a result, cement clinkers, Portland cement, alumina and hydraulic cements are allowed to be imported into the country. The lifting is expected to benefit the demand in the western regions and reduce the price of cement in Kazakhstan. Portland and blended cement shipments, including imports, in the USA and Puerto Rico, saw a 19 per cent YoY increase to 9.7Mt in April 2021, according to the US Geological Survey (USGS). The leading cement-consuming states were Texas, California, Florida, Georgia and Ohio, who accounted for a combined share of 40 per cent of total shipments. Peru’s cement market expanded by 66 per cent YoY to 1.085Mt in June 2021, according to the country’s cement association, Asocem. Peruvian cement producers dispatched 1.062Mt of cement in May 2021, representing a 228 per cent increase YoY from a low base due to the COVID-19 pandemic. Cement consumption in Argentina declined 7.8 per cent MoM to 874,187t in May 2021 but surged 34.8 per cent YoY from 648,543t in May 2020, according to AFCP, the national cement association. Uzbekistan imported 1Mt of cement worth US$50.5m in the January-April 2021 period, more than doubling the year-ago volume of 515,100t, according to Trend reporting the latest data from the State Statistics Committee of Uzbekistan. Total shipments for Portland and blended cement, including imports in the USA and Puerto Rico advanced 16 per cent YoY to 9Mt in March 2021, reports the US Geological Survey (USGS). Cambodia saw the value of its cement imports fall 48.6 per cent YoY to US$66.25m in 2020, compared to US$128.86m in the previous year, according to the Ministry of Commerce.
