Cimpor to install solar plants at its Portugal works

Portugal’s Cimpor has announced that it will install a photovoltaic plant at each of its three production units in the country. The project is part of an investment package that could exceed EUR130m over the next decade. It will see the installation of 1MW of power for self-consumption at each plant, with the conclusion of the installation expected by the end of the year. India’s Shree Cement has announced an INR47.5bn (US$645m) investment plan, which includes solar power projects, an integrated cement plant and a grinding works. Bestway Cement commissions solar power plant

Pakistan’s Bestway Cement and Reon Energy Ltd commissioned a 14.3MW captive solar power project at the producer’s unit in Farooqia, Khyber Pakhtunkhwa. The plant is reportedly part of a 50MW project deal dispersed across Bestway’s four locations in Farooqia, Chakwal, Kallar Kahar and Hattar. The new solar power plant is expected to generate around 78,385MWh annually, which would cut around 1Mt of CO 2 equivalent emissions over the lifetime of the project.

Birla Cement is to benefit from new open access solar power project

Waaree Energies, India’s largest solar module manufacturer has supplied 330wp & 335wp solar modules for a 28MWp captive solar open access project in Uttar Pradesh that will supply power to Birla Corporation Ltd (MP Birla Cement).   This is the first captive open access project commissioned in Uttar Pradesh under the Uttar Pradesh Connectivity Auction. The project which was inaugurated in March 2021.  

Prism Johnson commissions further WHR and solar capacity

India’s Prism Johnson has commissioned a 12.4MW waste heat recovery (WHR) unit and 10MW of solar power at its cement plant in Satna, Madya Pradesh. This is in addition to the 12.5MW of solar power capacity that was put into operation in the FY19-20 and the 10MW WHR facility that was installed in November 2020 at the same plant. The installations are expected to help the company reduce its dependence on non-renewable sources of energy and are part of its sustainability initiatives.
