30 June 2015

The Malawi government has started to roll out the the distribution of materials under its Decent and Affordable Housing (Cement and Malata) Subsidy Programme (DAHSP).

Speaking during the hand-over ceremony of the materials last week at Malembo School in the area of Traditional Authority (TA) Khongoni, Charles Makanga, Lilongwe District Commissioner, said: "We need decent houses with cement and iron sheets to replace the grass thatched and muddy houses in our villages within the given period of five years."

During the period, the project will see almost 1350 low income households in the capital of Lilongwe alone access the subsidised iron sheets and cement to improve and construct durable, affordable housing. (Source: Nyasa Times, Malawi).
