Colombian cement sales fall 5.5% YoY in 2016

Cement deliveries in Colombia decreased by 5.5 per cent YoY to 12.102Mt in 2016 from 12.807Mt in 2015, according to the latest figures published by DANE, the national statistics service. While sales in Atlántico and Antioquia rose by seven and 3.5 per cent, respectively, Cesar and Casanare reported a market contraction of 24.8 and 20.5 per cent, respectively. Colombia: OHL Industrial to build new Ecocementos plant

Spanish construction firm OHL Industrial is to build a new 1.35Mta cement plant in Sonson, Colombia, at a cost of EUR224.6m (US$240m), Construction Index reports. The integrated plant has been commissioned by Ecocementos, a joint venture between Colombia’s Corona and Spain’s Cementos Molins. Equipment for the facility will be supplied by FLSmidth .

Colombia's cement consumption down 4.6% YoY in November

Cement demand in Colombia fell by 4.6 per cent in November 2016 to 1.019Mt when compared with November 2015, according to DANE, the country's statistics office. Output decreased by 3.5 per cent to 1.009Mt when compared with November 2015, when production reached 1.045Mt. In Nariño deliveries advanced by 21.1 per cent and in Antioquia by 7.7 per cent. EcoCementos has selected FLSmidth as the equipment supplier for its new plant in Rio Claro, Sonson, Antioquia, Colombia. FLSmidth has been contracted for the engineering, procurement and supply of equipment to the 3150tpd production line. Colombia's cement market contracts 14.4% YoY in Oct

Cement consumption in Colombia fell 14.4 per cent to 0.994Mt in October 2016 from 1.162Mt in October 2015, according to the latest figures by the country’s statistics office, DANE. Domestic cement production in October reached 1.076Mt, down 11 per cent YoY. In the first 10 months of 2016, domestic dispatches saw a 5.2 per cent drop to 10.077Mt when compared with 10.632Mt reported in October 2015. Cement production reached 10.388Mt, down four per cent YoY.

In a trading update for the third quarter of 2016, Cementos Argos announced that its profits were down by 22.7 per cent YoY, with cement volumes falling by 7.4 per cent to 3.557Mt.
