LafargeHolcim Côte d’Ivoire opens new cement depot

LafargeHolcim Côte d’Ivoire has opened a new cement warehouse in Bouaké, in the north-central region, with traders now able to buy quantities larger than or equal to 10t without having to travel to Abidjan. The new depot is based at the old Gonfreville plant, with all bagged products (Classics, Extra and Superbric) available, according to the company.

GICA exports 15,000t of clinker to Côte d’Ivoire

GICA has carried out a further shipment of clinker to Côte d’Ivoire, according to Samir Setiti, president and CEO of GICA subsidiary Sodismac. A consignment of 15,000t of clinker, produced in GICA’s Beni Safi (Aïn Témouchent) works, has left the port of Ghaza. Since May 2018 GICA has carried out around 15 export shipments from various Algerian ports. More than 0.5Mt of clinker have been shipped to Europe while at present west Africa is a key export market for the company.

Cement prices in Ghana have risen for the second time in two months with producers in the country blaming the latest increase in the depreciation of the Ghanaian cedi. Algeria steps up exports

GICA, LafargeHolcim and Biskria are expected to export 0.5Mta of cement and clinker from Algeria by the end of 2018 – mainly via the port of Djendjen, according to Abdesselem Bouab, general manager of the port. Since May, GICA has completed three export deliveries for a total of 110,000t of cement. The company’s total contract totals 200,000t and represents a value of over US$4m. LafargeHolcim Côte d'Ivoire has released a new poduct called Bélier SuperBric cement, which the company claims allows quick drying of bricks in just 24 hours. Halving the time usually required to dry bricks and with a strength of 52.5N, SuperBric is the strongest cement in the country. PPC Ltd's Chief Executive Officer, Johann Claassen, has vowed to boost liquidity and extend debt maturity and he's eyeing future expansion for the company in east and west Africa.
