Vietnam cement sales slip during Jan-May 2013

Vietnam cement sales declined by 2.1 per cent in the first five months of this year to 19.5Mt compared to the same period of last year, data from the Ministry of Construction showed. The 2013 five-month figure represents 39.5 per cent of the whole year target, the ministry said. Pakistan saw a rise in total dispatches for the first 11 months of the current fiscal but May 2013 sales declined by one per cent largely due to transport issues. The Colombian cement market increased its demand 16.4 per cent YoY to 0.919Mt in April, latest figures from the country's statistics office, Dane, reveal. Key players in the April rise were builders and contractors (35.3 per cent share), concrete companies (19.1 per cent) and retail (9.3 per cent). Vietnam cement sales in the first four months of 2013 fell 1.7 per cent YoY to 14.45Mt, the Ministry of Construction (MoC) has said. Sales in the first four months represent 29.8 per cent of the full-year target, the MoC added. Cement production during the period was 15.53Mt (meeting 27.7 per cent of the full-year target). Total cement dispatches by members of Peruvian cement association Asocem reached 3,345,226t in the first four months of this year, rising 12.42 per cent YoY. Tunisia’s April cement sales are up 3.35 per cent YoY, although the sales of Ciments de Bizerte and Oum Kelil fell during march due to technical and social issues, according to the country’s Ministry of Industry. Domestic cement sales on the Ecuadorian market in the first four months of 2013 rose by 14.2 per cent YoY while April sales alone surpassed 500,000t. Local cement producers in Argentina have reported a rise in dispatches (local and exports) for April 2013 whilst consumption on the local market has also demonstrated healthy gains, latest figures from the country's cement association, AFCP, show. Sales in the Brazilian market rose by 11.6 per cent YoY in April to 5.9Mt, latest data from Sindicato Nacional da Indústria do Cimento, shows. For the first four months of the year, accumulated sales reached 22.1Mt, a marginal advance of 1.4 per cent compared to the same period of last year. Cement sales for the rolling 12 month period of May 2012-April 2013 were 68.6Mt, an increase of 3.3 per cent on the comparable period of the previous year (May 2011-April 2012).

Pakistan cement dispatches rose by 4.09 per cent in the first 10 months of the current fiscal, the latest data from the All Pakistan Cement Manufacturers Association (APCMA) shows. Dispatches for the 10 months to April 2013 reached 27.664Mt compared to 26.576Mt during the same period of the previous year.
