Cement production in Tajikistan declined in 1Q22

Cement plants in Tajikistan saw a 5.9 per cent YoY drop in cement production to 971,000t in the first quarter of 2022, according to the country’s statistics office. In January-March 2021, Tajikistan’s cement production reached 1.031Mt. In addition, the Ministry of Economic Development and trade has predicted cement output to advance to 7Mta by 2024 as well as a 200,000tpa increase of exports by 2024. In 2020 Tajikistan produced 4.2Mt of cement and exported 1.3Mta.

Turkey’s Çimsa Cement is investing US$45m expanding the capacity of its calcium aluminate cement (CAC) facility at its Mersin plant , according to Yatırımlar Magazine. The move is reportedly in line with the company’s growth targets as it plans to expand its product range to add value. The project is due to start in the 2Q22 and be completed in the 3Q23.

Akkermann Cement acquires unfinished Kaluga Cement plant

Russia’s Akkermann Cement , owned by USM Holding , has acquired the Kaluga Cement Plant for RUB8.95bn (US$110m) at an auction, reports Esmerk Russian News. Kaluga Cement was declared bankrupt in 2018. The plant was expected to have a capacity of 3.5Mta when commissioned, but the construction works were never completed. To take the project to a successful completion, it is expected Akkermann Cement will have to spend at least RUB30bn.

Kazakhstan-based Steppe Cement sold 281,968t of cement for KZT6.299m in the first quarter of 2022. This brings the company’s market share to 13.7 per cent in the 1Q22 from 13.2 per cent in the 1Q21. In the January-February 2022 period, Uzbekistan’s Commodity Exchange has traded 943,500t of cement, of which 864,300t, or 91.6 per cent, were sold at an average price of UZS546,700/t. The average monthly sales volume reached 432,200t.
